View Full Version : Pinpoint 7420
Just hooked up my new 7420 this weekend and had a question. The display shows MPH and Temp, does this mean I have these options or is there no way of telling? I'll have it in the water this weekend, so I'll find out soon enough, but I was just wondering.
Bought it privately and cannot remember if I got the special transducer.
Thanks,
Pat

A speed wheel on the transducer will tell you that you have speed. Temperature? - will probably just have to wait and see.
Did your tranducer come in a different package with a label explaining what it does?
EricCo,
I had it out today and the temp worked but it wasn't reading accurately. it showed the water temp at 37 degrees but I know its much closer to 60. I have a second graph which was reading 62 degrees. I must not have speed.
Any ideas on how to "calibrate" the temp? Any other thoughts on optimizing it would be great.

Pat,I had 2 7420's now 7520's.In your menu functions on screen, look for system setup, scroll down, you should see where it says to calibrate temp.I took a aquarium thermometer with a suction cup and let it stay under the water next to the transducer. After a half hour or so I set my sonar to the correct temp.Worked for me.You should be able to find the temp calibration in your menu screen.Arrow left or right to change temp.I hope this helps. If you have more questions let me know.I still have one 7420 I'm going to sell and I can plug it in to my boat to walk you through any questions.good luck mike
Mike,
So are you telling me I have to figure out what temperature the water is and calibrate it? Do I do this once and its set forever? While I was scrolling through temps, it seemed to get stuck on the 39.7 degrees setting. Maybe I didn't scroll long enough.
Anyhow, so I go to the lake and figure what the temp is. Then I calibrate and forget it. Sounds easy enough. Also, what is a good way to check water temp to make sure it is accurate? I don't want to use my other graph to tell the temp so any other ideas would be great.
Thanks,
Pat

Pat,All I did was take a aquarium thermometer. The glass kind with the suction cup on it.When I was on the lake docked before a tournament,I stuck it to the transom right next to the transducer. After a half hour to forty-five minutes,I checked the temp and adjusted my sonar to match. It then should be set from then on.I'm not sure how you get more accurate than that.A digital therometer would give you the tenths.Don't need to be that exact.Don't even know how well the sonars read the temp anyway. My way should be easy for you to do.Worked for me.good luck Mike
