Hi Guys

I am making some jigs and I have been told that many lakes and rivers are banning the use of leadhead jigs because of rising lead levels so here is my question for you - what can I use instead of lead??

A buddy of mine from work told me to use solder (not sure of the spelling - but I think you know what I am talking about - this stuff is used to almost weld pipes together - is this a good alternative

Good question, I know they make a non-lead core weighted line, but don't know about jigs. I wondered when things would change like this for anglers, waterfowlers had to make the change years ago.

Recently, there have been some advances in heavy nontox metals in the shot business, I would think much learned there would be somewhat applicable to fishing.

So, back to the top with this to see if someone else can answer your question.

I know that bismuth is being used for jig heads now. It is a non toxic metal and I can't tell the difference between a 1/16th head of lead and the same weight head of bismuth. They appear to both be the same size and density.

Where could I get some of this bismuth?
