Just read the article in In Fisherman on batteries and charges. Their set up recommendation for charging while running sounded complicated. I have a used boat and a Honda 90 4 stroke that came with a Guest charger (for plugging into the wall for recharging) and a Pergo switch with an "Off", "1", "2", and "All" settings. It was my understanding or misunderstanding that, when switched to anything other than Off I could charge my #1 battery (startiing), my #2 battery (deep cycle) or both while running. Is this a falacy? I must admit I have been doing this when running from spot to spot (that is, selecting one or the other of the batteries) for the last 2 years and have never run out of juice. Have I just been fooling myself? If so, I really feel silly!

UFDA,

You are correct, by turning the switch you can direct the flow of current while running. I would not recommend having the switch on the both position due to the different battery types between your start and trolling.

The automatic systems that have come on the market recently allow the fisherman to charge 24 and 36 volt systems while running without disconnecting any wires or turning switches.

Hope this helps!
