You will find some interesting discussion in the archives about this fishfinder. In a nut shell, they are a great unit except they have trouble reading the bottom at high speeds. Personally I would expect my $600 dollar unit to do the same thing that a cheap $100 dollar unit can do. Also there are some other really great units out there for $600. My $.02
I have one on a Triton 205 and am having no trouble with it. My brother (who is a real HARD sell), has one on his charter boat and runs it instead of the 1500 dollar color video. Transducer location is the probable culprit. Good luck.

What can you tell me about transducer location for the Zercom? I cannot get mine to show a fish arch. I returned it to the company and they shipped me a new one which they said they boat tested. I tried it today and still do not get fish arches. It reads the bottom well but the marks on the screen are more like small blotches. I have raised and lowered the transducer and changed the angle. The readings make no difference whether the motor is running or if I am drifting. My boat is a 16' aluminum. They also sent me a new transducer which made no difference. If their unit was boat tested that they shipped me then something has to be wrong with my mount.
Not all fish are going to mark in perfect arches. Play with the settings and get used to the unit. I think it will work itself out. Good luck.

Make sure that your transduser is perfectly level to water surfice when you put your boat on water.

I've had mine on the water several times this season and so far I've had great results. It clearly marks fish on the bottom or suspended as well as clouds of baitfish. I did have to move the transducer further from the prop and drop it down slightly, but it's been great ever since.
Good luck!

Remember that any graph will only show fish "arches" if you are moving and the fish comes through the center of your cone angle. You may only see partial arches or straight lines depending on how the fish comes through your cone angle. The lowrance web site has a good tutorial on how depth finders work. No matter the brand of the unit, the theory of operation is the same.
