If you were going to fish the mississippi what would you do?
Would you jig-
troll-
3-way-
cast-
What would be the first thing you would do, what depth would you try, On pool 4 would you try the river or the lake, on pool 3 would you fish the channel or back waters?
What have you found to be the best way to land large walleye?
Im going to catch a 10+ this year I just dont know how yet! LOL!!

Mannnnnnnnnn.....such an easy question........but the answer, now that's another thing.lol
You will NEVER be able to lock into anything when it comes to any river. Things change from hour to hour let alone from spring to summer to fall. 'All of the above' is the correct answer since all those presentations will play a role in any given area during any given time involving water level and flow and so on. And on. And on.
No doubt, pulling plugs is fairly consistent in the lake. And surely big fish seem to congregate in the back water in the spring, in very shallow water, pitchin' light jigs, where there is good current. But, no way can you bet on anything in the river. Just be open minded and pay close attention to the conditions. Precison in location on the river is the whole key. In any current situation, the length of the rod in any direction can be like night and day sometimes.

Steve is right on. I would add that river walleyes are almost always going to be on the bottom, usually near structure, often making use of current breaks or other areas near moving water. During winter and early spring many walleyes migrate up near Lock #3. After spawning, many will work their way back to the lake. If you have not seen it yet, visit www.fishtheriver.com and check out the articles and forum.......lots of ideas and tactics for that exact area for any given time of year. Frequent fishing reports, also.
