I have some stone chips on my range trailer. I live in the country so i have to travel a little gravel everytime. So i'am going to get my trailer repainted. Now, is there anything out thier that can be clear coated over top the paint to protect it from stone chips. Or what kind of other options do i have. I know its hard but i don't want any more stone chips after i paint the trailer. I even go really slow on the gravel road, 30mph max.
thanks guys

I've seen a device in the "truck catalogs" which looks for all the world like an 8-foot wide broom which you hang on your trucks hitch receiver to suppress the rocks. Ugly as sin, but easily removeable when not towing something.

SET the hook!!!

I was told by a boat dealer to use ski wax that leaves a clear layer of wax on the paint. Dealer said that this would help with rock chips. I never did it, so I can't say if it works or not, just an idea.

Joe,

Another option would be to have it sprayed with a bedliner spray. Not as smooth as paint, but it would sure hold up agains the rocks. My father in law did it to his a couple years ago, still looks as good as new. I know they have different colors available now for mixing. If I ever do paint mine, that is the way I want mine done.

Take care,

Brad

Autoparts stores sell an aerosol spray "stone guard". It dries slightly gray. Coat the underside and leading side of your trailer. I don't know how long it lasts, but it's a couple years anyway.

Cabela's used to sell them. I have seen other models, too, which look like a long rubber rug hung from your back bumper.

Use implement paint. Touch it up yourself. Fish aren't too picky about how your trailer looks. Unless....... you're a bass fisherman. ;)

Phil T. has a good idea. most any auto parts store that sells paint, also sells ROCKER PANNEL SPRAY. I live in Northeren Michigan, and travel a lot of dirt roads to fish. This spray has saved my trailer. Would still not be a bad idea to go with Cabela's stone skirts on the back of your tow vehichle. Good luck

My boat is old, but I still catch FISH!!
