Sending it to the top for Gilligan. He fishes there all the time. From what he says it is a great walleye lake. Deep trolling in the north and shallow weed walleyes in the south. Hope this helps. JJ

The lower half (south end) of Chautauqua is a max depth of 19'. Good walleye bite thru mid June. After that concentrate on the north end. The north end has steep breaks into deep holes (Long Point, Chautuauqua Institution, Mission Meadows) which are good in early spring, fall and winter. The weed bite hasn't been as good since they cut the crap out of the weeds for 7 or so years, it gets pretty well covered in milfoil. Past few seasons has produced some excelent night fishing. Walleye growth rates have slowed, probably because of the #'s but still produces some 7-8# fish. Muskie population has grown steadily. Last fall I was hooking up as many as a half dozen fish a day, by accident while jigging for walleye.
When do you plan on going there? I will fish it till mid June when the Erie bite gets rolling, and then come back for the fall bite when all the kids and toys are off the water.

I haven't made it there yet this year, but I do plan to make enough trip's to buy an out-of-state licence.$35 is well worth it for me.I fish anyplace that it's worth the wait, drive or uphill climb to get to.Chautauqua is one of those lake's.I may make it in 2 week's,for some lower basin weedline fishin'.How's the area of the northern basin do for 'eye's in spring?I have fished Warner's Bar,and it's good. Period.I'm glad actually that not many response's have come back,I know what type, and quality fish are possible on this lake.Thank's Gilligan,I enjoy the chat.

Chautaqua is one of the best walleye lakes in the area 15-25# FOR 5 fish common. The May tournament will have between 25-35 teams depending on weather. They have a email address but I have let it slip my mind.

Oh no! Lund Angler is now the competition! No more info for you buddy...LOL
We will be staying at the Theater Motel in Westfield, not real pretty but clean and cheap. It's about a 20 minute run to Chautauqua if you use Long Point, probably another 10 minutes or so to Celeron launch.
