Heading up to the Big Chip tomorrow, and one of the guys going along said they're pretty sure trolling wasn't allowed on the Chip's waters. Can anyone verify this?
No kidding? Ok, what constitutes 'trolling'? Can you jig with the trolling motor? I supose pulling a spinner rig is out of the question? Can the boat be mover at all with the trolling motor while fishing? Now I'm confused.
(thanks for your answer, by the way)
"Trolling" in Wisconsin always seems to be a gray area - just ask Greg Bohn! Anyway, from what I understand you can jig with your trolling motor in the water but you must be actively jigging, meaning you must be casting and retrieving. You can't cast out your jig, drag it around for a while and then reel it in - this would be trolling. Drifting is ok, and this is a really good method where trolling is illegal, find a prime area, motor up wind, drop in a drift sock (if necessary) and drag your jigs, bouncers, 3-ways... through the area. However, if you insist on trolling, if you are really good with a set of oars, you can troll by rowing!

I think that your lines must stay vertical if you are "position fishing" as the wdnr calls it here in WI. The regs book almost explains it.
