Heading to a job yesterday, I got rear ended by a van. The whole front clip of the van was trashed, their air bags deployed and the motor siezed up. They hit me goig about 35MPH while I was at a stand still. Hardley a scratch on my truck, however....now I have a bad vibration in the rear end at about 40MPH and up. It is definitely drive train related. Having worked with the insurance industry before when my wife got in an aky with the burb, they tell me the burden of proof is mine. At 32K miles, can I expect them to accept this claim, or what???

Very bummed and a little sore. :-(

Heck yes. But don't wait. Call you insurance company today!
If you wait, they will probably try to get out of fixing it.

Absolutely they should accept the claim. As stated, get ahold of your insurance agent pronto. Also, put in a call to the police precinct in the city in which the accident occurred to get a copy of the police report. This can sometimes take a couple days for the paperwork to filter through the channels.

Bummer!

They should accept the claim, no questions asked. Vehicles these days are made to go 150-200,000 miles. And if they at first refuse, you just purchased this in the last few months, right? Whereever or whoever you bought the vehicle from should be able to give it the clean bill of health.

Got the accident report at the scene and the other driver was ticked for inattentive driving since he admitted reaching down for his pop prior to impact. I called both insurance Co's this AM and will take the rig to a body shop at lunch. Should I also take it to Ford?? I am fearful that the diff or axle got screwed up somehow. I am sooooooo bummed, you can't imagine!

Ask the repair shops if they replace with original equipment. If not, go to another shop. Beleive me it does make a difference. Especially with the long guarentees on the drive trains now days.

And yes, take it to a Ford Garage to get one of the estimates, and talk to the person so you know what needs to be fixed. IMHO.

Tough one Eric. Glad no one was injured.

You're doing the right things. The accident was reported, and you're having it looked at quick. Also, the insurer's adjuster will want to see the vehicle; try and do this ASAP as well.

Also, to protect yourself, if you plan on driving the vehicle anywhere, ask the insurer/adjuster if you can. If they say yes, document who you talked to and when. Often small problems cause big problems, and you don't want the insurer denying coverage on the big one because it was caused after the fact. It's much better to be able to say "Well I asked, and your guy said it was okay."

Good luck,

derrek.

Aquaman,
I have dealt with body shops in the past.

Some are good, some are not. I have had both.

TAKE IT TO A FORD DEALER. You will not regret it.

Take it to a Ford dealer and have them do the work.

Yup. Just got back and they said because the hit was at a slight angle, I might have a 1-3 degree bend in the frame. Not much, but enough to track funny and shudder at upper speeds. So....They don't do body work and told me to get the frame straightened first, then bring it back to determine if there is an mis-aligned shafts or damage to the diff. They said that in all likely hood there was no damage and the shimmy/shudder would go away with the straightening. I asked if he would put that in writing and we both smiled. :-)

I had my truck parked on the street and it got rear ended, about a month later I had the ring gear fail on me, broke half a tooth off. I would have the differential inspected closely and drive shaft. Got to like being the biggest thing on the road for safety. One of our 1 ton Ford vans got rear ended by a Durango dented the bumper nothing left of ther front of the Durango.

Good Luck KLH
