I'm interested in getting a couple of muskie rods for those times when business trips take me into areas where I might get an afternoon or two of fishing in. I primarily throw medium weight swimbaits and lures (1 - 6 oz) and would prefer something that was a 2 or 3 piece rod to reduce the likelihood of them getting damaged in transit. Any recommendations?

I tried a 2 piece Fenwick Elite Tech 8'6 HF muskie rod this spring for some sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River and was extremely impressed with how it handled those big fish. It's got some glass in it and is designed as a trolling rod, but when I got it together, you couldn't see where it joined and it felt like a one piece. The buddy I showed it two didn't know it was a two piece until I told him.

I plan to order 2 more of them for the fall muskie trolling run. I think they would work well as a two piece to use for some casting in your situation.

They are a great buy at $100 or so retail as well.

Check them out.

I have a St Croix Tidemaster, breaks down to 3 pieces, handles lures up to 2oz. That will handle super shad raps, Cranes, smaller bucktails and gliders. One heck of a rod, it sees a lot of use at home on the boat too.
