Just spent last hour looking through archives for old post on Fatheads.
Can't find the post I wanted? Could someone refresh on the topic of Male vs Female fatheads? I think the jist was to use the females and give the males to someone you don't like?? Sound right? Thanks, <;{{{{{<<( Mr.Pike
In the Spring of the year it is difficult to tell the difference between male and female fatheads, however, as the season progresses, the difference is obvious. The female is lighter in color with a rounded nose and the male is darker (almost black in color) with little bumps that look like pimples on it's blunt nose. Don't ask me why but the walleyes prefer females. This has been proven time and time again by not only me but by many others as well. Some bait stores will let you sort out the males while others have them pre-sorted. Another trick to help you catch more fish is to put your minnows in a white container overnight (like a 5-gal. pail). Stick in your fridge or put in an aerator. This really lightens up the bait as it takes on the color of the container.
