I go throught batteries on my handheld GPS like its going out of style. Does anyone know if I can use lithium batteries in it. I've got lithium batteries in my camera and I've never replaced it and its 8 years old. I know that the battery usage is a bunch different but does anyone have a idea.

Good question! I have a Magellian 315 and I can't keep batteries in it. I love the unit, but it sure chews the batteries.

Check your manual it should discuss this and point out that certain types are better than others in cold weather.
I just got a hand held and the best accessary is the plug in to the twelve volt, boat or car.
Good Luck

My Garmin MAP76 manual, page 60, states: "The temperature rating for the GPSMAP 76 may exceed the range of some batteries. Alkaline batteries can rupture at high tempuratures. Alkaline batteries lose a significant amount of their capacity as tepmerature decreases. Use lithium batteries when operating the GPSMAP 76 in below-freezing conditions. Extensive use of screen backighting will significantly reduce battery life." I just started using lithium's? Seem to be longer lasting and OK, at this point? Some units use a lot more juice than others?

I soldered a 12-volt plug to my ice box so that I can use the battery for my Garmin 45xl. Get year round use out of my icebox.

When you are walking around with it,....ever think of using Nickle Hydride rechargeables? Hold lots more power than Nicads,..I always have a set in my charger,..your internal bat should be up to not lose settings,..but now I don't feel so bad leaving it on,..NiHds can be charged 100's of times,..maybe a 1,000.
