Any tips would be appreciated. Our group has never fished for muskies but we are willing to fish hard. We always practice catch and release. I have watched videos and read enough books to sink a battleship. I think I am ready for my first musky. I fished with my dad for many many years and he never even hooked a musky. Hopefully I can. Its a long trip from Colorado. I hope its worth it.
Thanks in advance

Wow - not one single response. Either there are no muskies in Vermilion or nobody feels like sharing. I'm not asking for any honey-holes or anything special. Just some basic tips for a beginning musky fisherman.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

Ask your question here (see link below). There is a lake Vermilion buzz going on right now.

My nephew has one of the fish that is creating some of the buzz. I'll try to post a picture of it here. We only caught on but it was a horse at 55" Truly amazing fish. Its still swimming around up there. For the right price I'll tell you guys what reef we were on.............maybe not, we will get her again ourselves

I'm pretty sure I don't know you or if your post was intended to be a slam on me or poke fun. For peace and harmony I will assume you were poking fun............................................... ......
We did sort of hire a guide and we also did quite a bit of investigation into how to fish Vermilion before we got there. Spring Bay Resort includes a couple hours of guided fishing when you book a cabin for a week. Steve did a great job fine tuning what we were doing and where we should be doing it. It was the hardest "vacation" I've ever had. It took my hands a week to recover from burning double 10 and double 12 bucktails. We were usually on the water by 5:30 and fished til 10:00 or so. We would run in and grab a quick bite to eat and spend most of the day fishing for other species. We would head back out by 8:00 or so and stay out until 11:00 or midnight. (A couple nights were closer to 2:00) Run back in and start the whole thing over again the next day. We certainly didn't get much rest or relaxation in.
We focused practically all of our time on the rock reefs as I'm sure most everyone that fishes Vermilion does. Dave Bentley from the Mil Lacs area knows my nephew and he also gave us some very good advice as far as baits, presentations, and locations.
All that work and I personally didn't even get so much as a follow that I know of. Its hard to tell in the dark. We will all go back and try it again. It is a little bit addicting.
