I will be spooling up 4 Daiwa trolling reels soon, I was recently reading a post about open water trolling lines.

I think that I understand the pros and cons, and I guess that I will go with mono first (I figure that I need a backing anyway). Indend to simply spool the same amount on each reel. Perhaps later I will change to PowerPro (but leave the 10 pound backing)

Had pretty much settled on buying a big spool of Trilene XT 10 lb - low vis green. That is until that recent post. Now I am thinking (or at least considering) the Trilene Big Game in 10 lb - green. The price is certainly right. Any thoughts/experience?

Thanks.

It is one of the best rough service lines around, and I think the best value out there. We've used the 12# for years, with no complaints.

No doubt there are better, finer, less stretch lines around, but I do not know of a better line that comes close in price.

Bestbuy with performance. Plain and simple.

ETT:

Why 12 lb? I assume that you are trolling with this? Do you just make the adjustments in the Percision Trolling?

I have to agree with everyone else, on my trolling reels that have mono, I have 12lb big game. I like it just fine, very durable and the price is right. Good luck!

Good line, used it on a river full of boulders and rocks in Maine numerous times. Good abraision resistance, but there may be a tensile strength loss under certain condition-cold. Seems to get somewhat brittle and the knot strength goes down. Due to its stifness, it has a lot of memory when casting.

What's left to say? I've got 10lb Big Game on all four line counters - hi vis green. I change it only once a season - it's durable, average stretch, and the cost can't be beat.

It ends up being about 2' less depth, then Precision Trolling indicates (for deep diving lures). This is about how much above the marks, I want my deepest lure, so it is somewhat self adjusting. It better to be 6' above them, than 6" below them.

I don't know if you have a Gander Mountain around you, but for about the next week they have their line sale going where you can buy any monofilament line for .01 per yard and they spool it for you. I have used Power Pro, Fireline and most other types of line for my linecounter trolling, and I am back to using 10lb XT. 10 lb will catch any walleye, and it is what Precision Trolling uses. I was losing a few more fish with the superlines, and you have to double wrap the board clips. The only advantage is that superlines have a smaller diameter, so if you are fishing deeper water, your deep diving cranks go down farther.
Every year I take my linecounters in and have them empty, and then fill the spools in all of my (6) SG27's for about $20.00. This way I know all of my counters will be reading about the same. The Gander line sale is a great time to get everything ready fo a new season.

Good Luck

Mike
