I have a 2 year old Minn Kota Genesis that when I boaught it new I had them run the transducer cord through the shaft. I got a new sonar & want to run the cable myself. Is this wise? Or should I have a factory service gut do it? Any instructions or tips?
You can do it yourself if you are good at splicing transducer cable. You will have to cut the cable to fit it thru the shaft. The plugs don't fit down the shaft. It's difficult to thread the cable down the shaft. What I did was attach a very small spit shot to a 2lb. test line and drop it down the shaft from the head to the bottom. Then I removed the shot and tied the line to the transducer cable and pulled it up the shaft thru the head. Then reattach the transducer plugs. Leave some slack in the cable on the bottom end and put some extra electical tape on the bottom 6" of cable as the up and down of this motor does tend to wear and stretch the cable on the bottom end. Good luck !
