Well, I posted this yesterday, but it appears to be lost in cyberspace as a result of the changeover! I apologize if I'm blind!!
I'm curious if there is any difference (other than color) between the white 5225 and the black 5226 Galaxy antennas other than color. Anybody tried the black one yet?? Also, what are you folks using to secure 8' antennas while they are in the "down" position.
Regards
I hope there isn't a difference besides color - I have the black one. Seems to work fine for me and it matches my boat. As of right now I'm not doing anything to secure the antenna. On my lund the antenna folds down and about a foot of the tip section lands on one of the rubber step pads on the gunnell. When I lock down the handle it puts a slight bow in the antenna and it really holds its position with this pressure.
Best Regards,
FJH

Well, two of us can't possibly be wrong, can we?!? I, too, picked up the black one while at Reeds this past weekend. I'm assumming that the only difference is color, until I hear otherwise!
When I picked up the antenna, they were out of the stainless rachet mounts (story of my life). I've tried to locate one here in the cities that has the same hole pattern as the nylon one I took off, to no avail. Sooo, it's off to Cabela's tonight after work - supposedly they have one down there.
Thanks

I'll agree with the above posts. Iknow of no difference other than color. With regard to mounts, I know the ratchet styles are the most popular but I bought one of the VHF Ram mounts. Like all the Ram products, quality is great. I think it's equal to, or sturdier, than many of the ratchet styles. Plus, from appearance, if you get a black antenna, Cabela's carries the Ram mount in black. If you want white, West Marine carries the mount in white and either way, you can quickly detach mount and antenna if you don't want it on the boat all the time. Check it out. I like mine.

Hey Dave,
I do not know of any difference between the two antenna's, but that does not mean there is none.
I use a couple of velcro cable wraps at first on the rail of my 620 and now I use a larger size and secure the antenna in two places against my Big Jon rod holders. I fold them down and face them to the rear when running or not in use and the cable wraps go around the pole holder and the antenna.
I found these cable wraps at Farm and Fleet and a couple other hardware(ACE) stores. They are made under the GB Brand.
Good luck.......R

By the way thanks for tip on silicone spray.
West Marine sells a rubber clip for your antenna in the down position. Mounts w/ two screws, but some double sided tape might hold it as well.

the ram antenna mounts are definitely the way to go fellas!!! plus when you sell your boat all you leave is the ball and you keep your antenna and all your electronics rod holders, etc.

Hey Robertp,
No sweat.
I have also seen those tip clips, but the way I have my boat layed out, I find the velco works better for this. And I can do it on two different locations to really make sure that sucker doesn't bounce!!
Just me killin a fly with a hammer again!!!;-) LOL.
Good luck........R

Electronically speaking there is NO difference other than color between those 2 Galaxy VHF Antennas. Both are excellent top-of-the-line quality antennas with maximum range capabilities.
