The new regulators that are coming on new grills, the one that fits the new valve. From what I can tell, you should also change over to the new regulator/ valve connector when you get your new tank or valve. It has the internal threads, but the new valve has the o-ring on the inside of the valve. The old version has the o-ring on the male fitting. The new regulators that I has seen have a big plastic nut on them that goes around the valve on the external threads. Does anyone else see a problem 5 or so years from now when the plastic degrades from the sun and heat from the grill (if used for that application).Plastic and sun do not mix. If someone does not use their grill of other product alot, couldn't the plastic break or crack without the owner knowing about it. He could just turn it on not knowing that the big black plastic nut is cracked and a gas leak has started. I know this is a long shot, but I am a guy who looks at design of products. When I looked at how they changed the regulator attachment system, I immediately questioned, "why plastic on a part that is so crucial to saftey. I would have paid the extra $ 5.00 for a brass nut. Am I being too anal or does anyone else see or question the choice of material too???

You could not reply on my last post because of too long of a subject line. Hope this one works!

I've had a propane BBQ out in the elements for seven years now, with no signs of degredation of the plastic nut. The reason for the plastic nut is that the system is designed that if the nut overheats, the fitting pops out of the valve. When that happens, the valve is designed so that the flow of propane is shut off. I don't know if they will have them where you live, but you can buy adapters to match old tanks, to new fittings, and new tanks to old fittings. We bought a few at work and if I remember correctly they were in the $20 Cdn price range.
