Was snooping around over lunch, and found some Rapala Sportsman Rods at what appeared to be a pretty good price ($34.95 Cdn.). But, I know nothing about these - except what the rod says - they are IM6 graphite. Selection was not great, but they did have some 6'6"MH one piece rods.
Does anyone have any experience with these things? I'm not a huge fan of MH rods, and I don't need any crap, but they felt reasonably light, and were definitely stiff - is this thing a decent rod to troll bouncers with?
Any help on these would be appreciated.

Actually, it would seem that the Rapala rods - made in china -
represent a good value.
Decent handles, decent blanks and come in actions from ul to mheavy.
Take care

I have also looked at them and for the money they may be a fairly good rod. They also come in a tournament series for around $50.00 and a signature series at around $100.00 or so, the warranty is pretty decent as well. My local sporting goods store has some they are going to "demo" out, so I will be trying out some of them. Can't wait for Opener.

i picked up a couple to test out...
the 6'6"mh spinning for 3/8-5/8 jigs and winnipeg/red river eyes
and the 6'11" xh baitcaster for 3-4 oz bouncers and 3oz three ways
want to try the xh as a 3oz bouncer travelling fast all days puts a good strain on your arm
it will also double as a guest cat rod...
the price was 30$ in winnipeg

Hey mw - the 6'6" MH spinning is what I was looking at. What did you use it for, and how did you like it?

these are new rods this spring and i have not tried them as of yet...
the 6'6"mh will be for 1/2-5/8 jigs on the red and winnipeg rivers...
may also try it for a 2nd crankbait casting rod but may be a little stiff...
basically verticle jig with jigs or spoons...
what do you want to use it for?
the price seems right....
i buy a couple different rods every year sometimes cheap sometimes more.... if i don't like i sell them off to friends....

MB walleye, I was thinking of picking up a cheap rod for use and abuse by friends. I was thinking of the rapala rod. Where in winnipeg was it $30? Cheapest I saw them was at Wal-Mart, but I can't remember whether it was $30 or $35.

I was planning to use it for trolling bouncers with spinner rigs, and casting/trolling spoons the few times we target pike. Is this rod suited for these applications?

it should be ok for bouncers up to 2oz
3ozers will work but will but a good strain on your wrist if you are pulling all day.... should also work well for casting for pike.
i use baitcasters for bouncing though...
you should try them you will like them....

right now united army has them on sale for 20% off but they did not have any of the 6'6" shinning left that i could see today...
for trolling cranks they have a 2-pce 6'6" med.baitcaster
and a nice 6'3" medheavy 1 pce baitcaster that i am going to buy also
i am down to 1 hand held trolling rod and have a reel ready to go for it as i just cut down my other spare into a 52" ice rod
but they are both 1 step up from the im6's
so 1 was 45$ and the other 55$ less 20%
all rods right now are on for 20% off
ask for wayne and tell him roger sent you
he will give you a good deal

I was at Wal-mart and SIR today, they were selling the sportsman series rods for $39.
BTW, felt sick today after seeing that SIR was selling Reef Runners for $13.50
I'll try your buddy at UAS. I'm actually looking for a second jigging rod for cheap, 6' max.

Do you have a Wholesale Sports in the 'Peg?
That's where I saw them for $34.95 (which is $5 cheaper than Wal-Mart, and WM only had 2-piece varieties).
If you don't have a local store, you can go to www.wholesalesports.com and take a look at their rod selection online. I don't know if you can order online, but they give ordering instructions on the site (I think they have a 800 no. or something).
Thanks everyone for your help.
