I too choose Mora. I would recommend buying some replacement blades for it immediately though. They use some Chinese blades out of the box to keep the price low on the auger. Those Chinese made blades are of some serious poor quality.
Good Luck

I had the Mora and then bought the Lazer last season. The Mora cut just as good IMO!!!But it wouldnt cut at all outta the box due to the China blades.:banghead: So if ya buy one figure on buying extra blades on top of there price, cause replacements are made in Switzerland.

I'd be willing to bet every hand auger comes with :horsepoop: blades to keep the price point low. Whatever you buy try drilling a hole with the original blades. After 10 minutes and a whole lot of huffing and puffing, put the "good" blades on and finish drilling that hole. It's so bad that I kind of laugh when I think about it.
I think they'd be better off just saying blades are not included.
Imagine some guy decides to take his kid out ice fishing. He buys all the basic gear including a 6" hand auger. He get's out to the lake and it takes him 20 minutes to bang one crooked azz hole in eight inches of ice and he's ready to tip over dead from exhaustion. His 6 year old kid witnesses this. Do you think the kid's gonna get hooked on ice fishing? My guess is not.
Good Luck
I'm so ready for the hard water season I can hardly stand it!!

The StrikeMaster Lazer is a very good hand auger system. I recommend you do not go over 7" or the work is significantly more to drill a hole. In fact, go smaller if you primarily use it for panfishing.
The Nil's is very good too, but far more expensive.
A spare set of blades is always wise no matter what brand you decide on. Get the spare set sharpened once dull, have a professional service to do it, very often they do an exchange..dull for sharp.....don't try it yourself you will just damage them...they are very tricky to do. They can be so sharp you can shave with them, but not drill one hole...the correct pitch and angle is critical. Keep the spare set on hand in the field.
Hand augers do well but dull hand augers are a major freak'n pain...when sharpened properly....no problem.

nils is the fastest, followed by lazer or the shark i believe its called with the curved blades?
I've had moras that cut pretty well, but nothing like a good lazer.

Nils is by far the fastest and easiest to use. I've had a 6" for 7-8 years and it has cut thousands of holes. I'll still put it up against a new Lazer any day.
had mora and lazer...i prefered the lazer.
Have Mora and Lazor; go with the Lazor.

I used my buddy's mora before, then I bought myself a lazer. I'll stick with the lazer.

Plus one on the Nills

The hands down best manual auger is whatever auger my 6 foot 2 inch, 220 pound 17 year-old son happens to be using to drill all of our holes with! I've never even broken a sweat.......

I like this 6" Fin Bore Micro for speed and portability..
Use it for Lake Simcoe perching out of Cooks Bay, and Innisfil.
Lost a large fish once because the hole was too small.
