HAD SHOULDER SURGERY IN JUNE...56 YEARS OLD...LESS STRONGER THAN BEFORE SURGERY...GOING MUSKY FISHING IN OCTOBER...CAN ANYONE "PRESCRIBE" WHAT KIND OF LURES I CAN USE THAT WILL BE LESS TAXING ON MY ARM? I REALLY DON'T HAVE THE STRENGTH TO HURL AND DRAG 10" "GRANDMA" LURES THROUGH THE WATER ANYMORE...ARE THERE BAITS THAT GO 2-4 FEET UNDER AND HAVE LESS RESISTANCE THAN THE TYPICAL MUSKY BAIT? THANK YOU MUSKY DOCTORS!:boohoo:

Shallow diving Rapala super shad rap is deadly. I was with a buddy when he boated two fish in two casts with one a couple years ago. Of course we were in St Clair which has a LOT of muskie, but I never saw two in two cast before.
Little Jakes, Grandmas, Husky jerk 14's, Bill lewis super traps, Xrap jointed shad.....they all weigh under 2oz. and they all produce.

Think of doing a lot of trolling maybe?
Also just look for the smaller sized lures that are popular, 7" Believer, depth raider, suick's, reefhawgs, single bladed bucktails, etc..
Also don't try and jerk the crap out of them looking for a strike, vary your retrieve at speeds your comfortable with.
I had good results using a suick and giving it a small jerk, let sit 5 or so seconds, the jerk again, repeat as neccesary..:)

Go with baits that have less drag as well. Jerkbaits like suicks and E-Z Risers do not have the drag of a crankbait but have the profile. Go with a double 8 bucktail vs a ten. get a power handle, that will help too as will a longer rod.

Large plastics have very little resistance and can be retrieved with the rod tip high to keep the baits in the upper portion of the water column.

Try a Manta glide bait for something that wont wear you out.
try jigging with tube jigs go to

order a few larger tubes and jig heads. We use them very successfully here on the upper Niagara River and in The Small Boat Harbor. Just jig them, if you are drifting just jig it along the bottom, hopping it along.
You can also cast them into and along weed edges etc.. If you are trolling add the amount of weight ahead of them to get the depth you want, then just add a pump of the rod every once in a while to supplement the action of the tube.
