Spinner length

I am in the process of tying my own spinners. When you guys talk about a 3' or 4' snell, are you talking about the whole length of the spinner rig or just to the 1st hook?

Well, it just doesn't matter that much 3 to 4 foot from start to finish or hook to snap it is close enough
