Would it be foolish to buy a Pinpoint Sonar with all that seems to be going on with them? Is it possible to put a Pinpoint sonar/transducer on a different brand of motor? If so how and what would you need to do so? Thank You.

Talk to anyone who's used a Pinpoint graph and they'll tell you that nothing else comes close. Talk to Matt Thompson at Thorne Brothers. He's one of the most respected anglers in the area and he'll tell you that there's nothing else he'd want on his boat, and that Pinpoint is their number one selling graph.
Pinpoint has a new line of Interference Free transducers that address all the issues inherent with slapping a transducer on a trolling motor. It's designed specifically for what you want to do, and is the only motor mounted puck transducer specifically designed to cut out unwanted electrical noise.
If you want to see the stuff in action, and you're near the Twin Cities, I'll pick you up for a demo ride. Name the boat ramp and the time and I'll be there.

Thanks Brian. My main concern is if I would be buying something that I can't get service or parts for if need be and if Pinpoint is going out of existence. I've been told by many that Pinpoint graphs are awesome but I want to make sure before purchasing one. Where can I get one of these transducers if I decide I need one and what do they look like?

Pinpoint was bought by motorguide??????
If so, product support will certainly be available????
It sounds like the talk on the streets - concern the trolling motors from Pinpoint - not the sonars.
Since Motor guide is a large trolling motor manufacturer - my guess - is that the basic reason that Motorguide bought Pinpoint - was for their technology.
If Pinpoint goes - with out a name - as far as trolling motors are concerned - I would guess, that you will find a Motorguide trolling motor on the market that does the things that Pinpoint does now. I would also expect that the depth finders will be just fine.
Take care
