I've been looking for the perfect rod for salmon jigging. This is a technique used in a particular area of river that I fish that bascially consists of vertical jigging a 3 or 4 ounce spoon like a large crippled herring. The best fit I've been able to find so far is a rod made for backbouncing bait. But I find these backbounding rods to be a little light in action for jiggin heavy lead all day...too much bend in the rod when jigging. What I'm looking for is something around 8' with a very fast tip and a lot of backbone and a heavy action. This would save a lot of work when jigging all day, meaning less bend in the rod for each jig while still maintaining some sensitivity in the tip and a lot of backbone for pulling a fish in against fairly strong current.
It occurred to me that there might be a muskie rod that fits this bill. Since there are no muskie where I live, I don't get the chance to look at these lines of rods so maybe you guys can fill me in.
thanks.
