Hit him right in the pocket and he was quartering away more than he looked. I shoot off the ground. The arrow passed through and exited behind the back rib on the other side. Anyhow 3 of us tracked into the night and half the next day. I informed my neighbors and had them keep an eye and ear open for coyotes and crows. I was just gut wrenched knowing this was a good buck that the predators would only be able to have. Yesterday my neighbor knocked on my door and said he found my deer. I hurried up got into my mudders (knee high boots) and went to get him. This deer went over eighty acres through blow downs and swamp, into a gravel pit, swam the lake in the gravel pit and expired on the bank on the other side. There was a wolf track beside his track before he went accross the lake. I was told that there is a nowhere land in deer and I found it. The lungs and heart were unscathed and that deer did not want to expire. I learned a valuable lesson with this one. If you know you had a good shot and can't find him, call your neighbors and keep looking it can pay off!!!. Anyone who hunts with archery equipment is bound to have this happen sometime in their hunting endeavors and it just twists ya up inside. My prayers were answered on this buck and the "buck from ****" is going on my wall!!!

I was surprised that this deer went so far. I have a buddy who has had this happen more than once, and we were always lucky enough to recover it within a short distance. Most flank shots severe an artery and there is usually a good spore to follow. In both cases, we marked the spot and backed out for a couple of hours. Especially with a quartering shot which you feel hits "guts" too. Did you possibly push this deer a little bit too soon. Most deer hit in this manner will lay down soon after wounding in this manner. Your ingenuity in alerting your neighbors was truly a good tip for all of us to learn. Very happy you recovered your trophy as well. As an aside, on my way home from hunting yesterday, I encountered several does in a field by the road with a huge 10 point fighting an equal in body size 6 point fighting right behind them...of course, my camera battery was dead...what else! Gun season opens here in MI in 8 days! Gonna be locked, ****ed, and ready to rock! Good hunting to you and all your friends.:antlers:

Yes I believe we did push it because it started to rain pretty good. Of course it stopped right when I told Tom let's back off and wait 'til morning...
