I have two allstar rods. One is an ultra-light spinning 4'6" rod and I want to put a shimano stradic 1000 on it. Is the reel to big for that rod? I do live near a store where I can see these reels, so I have to take your word for it. Also I have a 6 foot light rod from allstart rated for 6-12lb line, will the stradic 2000 fit this one? Thanks for any guidance on this matter and other reel suggestions. thanks steve. I just do not want an awkward set up.
I think you're about right with those setups. A lot of it is a matter of preference, but it sounds right to me. I use both 1000 and 2000 size reels on my 6 footers, and they're not that different in size, and neither feels awkward to me.

For the 6 footer, either will be fine - there is only a half-ounce difference in weight between the 1000 and 2000 Stradics. The 4'6" rod will definitely not need bigger than a 1000 and even with that, may require significant counter-balancing. But, of course there is no 500 Stradic - to get a 500 series, you have to go down to a Sedona (I think), or a Spirex. Both are about 3 oz. lighter than a 1000 series.
The Stradic is a great reel, and hard to turn down. If you can balance it, go for it. Otherwise, put one of the 500's on your 4'6" and get a 5'6"UL rod for your second 1000, which should balance easier.
Good luck,
derrek.
