I think it's worth it to get the zoom on the LX-3.

Zoom is a great feature that you'd probably find yourself using in many situations. The LX-3 has zoom, the VX-1P does not have zoom.

Also, I think the LX-3 has more levels of interference rejection than the VX-1P, so if you're around other flashers you're likely to have better results cleaning up the cross-talk on the LX-3.

The LX-3 has a Marcum Rebate right now which brings the price difference to under $100. You can see the rebate details and get the rebate form HERE (http://profishingsupply.com/marcum_rebate.htm). Hope that helps.

The vx-1 has zoom also u just can't move it through the water column like the lx-3 if u r chasing crappies go with the lx-3 if u r just bottom fishing vx-1 will work fine. Note the lx-3 has better IR also

Great point, I should have been calling it adjustable zoom!

Thanks for the input. Went back to Calelas and got the LX-3. With the rebate hard to pass on unit with more features. Thanks again, Jim

I run the LX-3 and love it. The IR is great.

Just don't do what I did and forget to remove the positive cable over summer. The nice little battery percentage readout will apparently drain it over the course of several months.

I took back the LX3 and got the LX5. The $100 coupon I got from Cabelas made it a easy decision. Jim

Jim did you help a guy out once in the Kenosha Gander Mtn parking lot? Guy had a Ranger and a wheel bearing out. If you did it was me. :howdy:

Its a good idea to plug it in over the summer at least once for a week or so and let the battery recieve a little mainanence charge.

This is another plus of the 3 and 5 over the VX1, the charger is WAY better.
