When I first started using braids I used the back to back Uni Knot to connect my Floro Carbon leaders. Lately I have gotten lazy while fishing and just used the old reliable Blood knot that I have used for 20 years of fly fishing. I have yet to have a knot fail! Has anyone else used this Knot instead? I have never heard of anyone substituting this knot before? I truly hate tying the back to back knots, for me they are very difficult. After I tie the Blood knot I also give it a drop of Super Glue.
Back to Back Uni is one of the best for connecting to lines. It's not hard to tie with practice and if tied correctly is 90%. You need 5 wraps on both knots and most important, tighten the tag ends BEFORE you snug to two knots together. However, with mono to braid, I use the Albright knot with 8+ wraps. You need to practice the snugging to get it right however. It is also 90% if done correctly. I've never had the blood knot test out much over 60% but that may be my tying.

Blood Knot is excellent for connecting mono to mono! I have been using it while fly fishing for 20 years. But I have never heard of it being used to conect braids and mono. So far I haven't had one fail?

I've been wondering about the Blood too. Very similar knot and, in my opinion, much easier to tie. Its on my list of things to do this weekend for the opener.
Better to have and not need than to need and not have!

I use the classic blood knot for everything from building fly leaders to connecting fireline to mono. Never have had a problem. Actually, there is relatively little difference in concept between the back to back uni knot and the blood knot. I don't know if there is that much difference in strength. I certainly have not tested them other than in fishing. Like any knot, if you tie it poorly, it will fail.

The uni knot is what you should use. The Tie Fast tool is great for this work and it is fun to do.Pick up a couple 5-6 bucks and well worth it.I don't leave home without one.DO not be surprised if your buddies want your Tie Fast.Do not loan it to them!!
You can test them. Tie the blood knot and a back to back uni in the same piece to line and pull until something gives. And the winner is?????

I just tested 24# spider fusion with a palomar at one end and a braid knot with 6 turns on the other, the palomar is losing badly.

again, palomar vs braid knot in the same line, palomar won 2/3 of about 10 battles. i noticed it is very particular how you tighten up the braid knot. if you leave it loose it breaks.
You're learning the MOST important thing about knots and that is to tighten them as tight as possible especially the tag ends because it is that last little slip before they break that weakens the line and causes it to fail. After you have tightened everything as tight as you can by hand, wrap the line across your thighs and tighten just short of failure.
