Does anyone have input on these hyfax kits you put on the bottom of the shacks to protect and aid in pulling the flip over style shantys.

I have 2 Frabill Predators. 1 with the Hyfax runner kit and the other without. I would say if you plan on pulling your shelter with an ATV or something on roads etc...get the Hyfax. It will save the bottom of your shelter. It is a pain (time factor) in the butt to install.

Farmers have farm truck beds lined with very durable plastic.. find a source for same & cover bottom
of tub. We use a propane torch to bend to pull end of tub & install hard bar brackets with wood backing
at same time. bolt to tub. Have pulled this type for set-up for years on Sag. bay with very little wear
to bottom even with pulling over miles of rough ice..

I had one of the local guides advise me to get a pair of cross country skis from the Salvation Army store. !0 bucks, some stailess countersunk bolts with nylock nuts and the shanty slides across the lake like butter
Burt,
That is what I have done with the last several ice houses.
i.e. downhill skies from the local thrift store bolted to the bottom of the house. Very easy pulling and excellent tracking.
If you happen to pull with an atv, and if you have a choice on ski placement, try to arrange the width of the skies or hyfax so that they are in line wiht the wheel tracks or width of any tracks left by the pulling vehicle. It will make the house to track better.

They are worth it. The shack will pull easier, and track better when in tow.
Tip when installing, start from the front, use a heat gun or hair dryer to warm the strips to make them more pliable. Then mold them to the curve of the front of the sled...work your way to the rear.
On some models you will have excess hy-fax, trim to fit at the rear, but still start from the front proceeding to the rear.

Ihave a frabill magnum with the hyfax runners. It's a heavy shanty and tough to get in and out of my truck,so i use it seldom. When I do,I usually pull it with the sled or atc.
But I swear it hardly pulls by hand with much more difficulty than my Clam scout...When fishing with children on certain lakes, that's the shelter of choice

One possible free option would be to stop by an snowmobile dealership and ask for some used hyfax they would normally throw away. I would guess you'll need at least 4 sections.
