Look on your favorite Mille Lacs map near the legend for the datum. The coordinates on the map will be associated with this datum, and you should set your GPS to match so that it will be as accurate as possible. The same area can have different datums.
it is suppose to be on the map can't find it anywhere

Check out post #17967 for datum info.
Not being at the office for reference, I believe the Mille Lacs map datum in NAD 27.

Question for Mike...any chance you guys will put out a map of the St Mary's river? I'm sure it's a big undertaking as the NOAA Nav maps cover a couple of maps and when you open them you can turn your outboard off and sail home...Just wondering...Mark

OK guys........... Where do we locate the datums on our own, so we don't have to keep asking through these posts?
i also bought the hot spots area for minnesota. mike, are all the datums on this the nad27? or does each have to be set individually? how close should we expect to be? faa says waas is working and should be within like 2 meters horizontally and 3 meters vertically or vice versa.

I asked this exact same datum question last week for the Leech Lake Navionics HotSpot map and didn't get a response. Anyone know what the datum is for the Leech Lake map? It's not listed on the paper map either.

Mike,
With the Garmin 162, there are 11 different NAD27 datums to include Alaska (NAD27 Alaska) to San Salvdor Island (NAD27 San Sal)in the owners manual. Does it matter? Or can I use default datum setting of WGS 84?

Same situation here. Lorance Global Map 100 has all the different datum options also. It is confusing to say the least. Mine was also set to default on WGS 84. never knew it would make a difference. Mr. Michalek, what NAD27 datum is being used on your maps? The pandoras box is now open and I'll bet I'm not the only one out here confused. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
