Hi

Last weekend's HUGE snowfall that left over 16 inches blanketing the Metro missed Mille Lacs! We received only about 3 inches of the white stuff... then came the wind. Some of the snow blew off the lake leaving us with about the same amount on the lake after the "storm" as before it. The ice thickness has improved to 10+ inches in many areas with some spots measuring as much as 15 inches. Most of the resorts have established their roads - some are beginning to let "light" vehicles drive, others are limiting traffic to ATV's. Houses are being pulled onto the ice throughout the day and it's starting to look a little more like winter. If conditions remain like this, I expect things will be "full speed" by Christmas.

The bite has been decent in the deep water (mud flats and gravel). Look to 9-mile, Sherman's, the Boot and Sloppy Joe's in 23-28 feet. These areas hold fish throughout the day, but you'll find the best bite to be around sunset. Jigging Raps and Puppet Minnows have been good so far - start with a green or yellow one. The perch are scattered throughout the water column. The size is mixed, but we're seeing more "big" ones than we did last year at this time. Waxies or maggots are the ticket here.

Finally, When a customer left his cell phone in my store, I scrolled through his saved numbers, stopped at "Mom" and pushed send. His mother answered, and I told her what happened. "Don't worry," she said, "I'll take care of it." A few minutes later, the cell phone rang. It was "Mom." "Martin," she said, "you left your cell phone at the bait store." True story.

Have a great weekend,
