Dew Claws Growing back ?

Have any of you ever heard of this. My daughter is here from texas for the holidays and she brought her Jack Russel Terrier along. She showed me today that his dew claws are actually growing back. He is four years old. I have been involved with dogs all my life and I have never heard of this. Have I just been living a sheltered life, or is this unusual?

I've never heard of it happening, but by doing a quick search on the internet, I have seen answers saying that, yes, they can grow back.

Apparently, there's a little piece of bone or something, that if it's not entirely removed, will grow again. Much like a fingernail I would guess. I dunno....

Maybe Vetspet can shed some light on the subject. :huh:
