my wifes grandfather left us to troll the big bay in the sky two months ago. I was contacted by her grandmother who asked if I would like any/all of Herberts fishing "stuff". I think I founf some pretty good stuff. He has Numerous (20-30) plugs mostly made of wood and are still in original packages...most unused. Grandma thinks they date from the 30's thru the 50's. He has three Original Zara Spooks that have never been used, A bunch of Arbogast plugs and several others. Each one has box & complete paperwork with them. Does anyone know where I can bring these to have them maybe appraised or isn't it that big of a deal. Any/All input is greatly appreciated.

Go to your library they'll have books you can look the lures up to see value. Be careful with appraisers they'll lowball you. Good luck. Pat Cavins

Do a net search for antique fishing lures. You'll get enough hits to keep you busy for a long while. Here's one to start:
http://www.antiquelures.com/ There was even site that specializes in zara spooks.
Have fun.

I've got some old lure's from my Dad,and looked at Barnes and Noble near me.There was a large book on old one's,very good.Prices and degree's of quality.Of course, try the web. Some of my Creek Chub's,well the unused in the box, perfect condition are worth $40 or so.I wouldn't sell them for anything. Also have some old spoon's.Worth $25-$50.Would'nt trade 'em for nothin'.Good luck, and let me know what you've got.I've also got some Heddon's,I made a shadow box,out of Oak,and put it up in my bedroom.Still trollin'with Dad,I'm sure.

Do a search on Ebay using the name of the lure. That will tell you what folks are paying for them. It makes a difference whether the lures are in used or MIB (mint in box) condidtion.
Have fun!

Try Krause Publications in Iola Wis. The toll free number for a free catalog or placing an order is 800-258-0929. They have all sorts of collectors books from baseball cards and coins to fishing lures and guns. If you want an excellant venison cookbook I can recommend "The Complete Venison Cookbook From Field To Table" by Jim and Ann Casada.

My fishing partner sold some OLD lures that he got out of his Dad's attic after he died. His brother-in-law put them on E-bay. One of them that was unused and new in the box sold for over $1,000.00 !!!! A local "collector" had offered him $200.00 for these lures and others in an old tackle box. Do Not under any circumstances sell these to a collector who appraises them for you. As stated, they always give you the absolute lowest price so they can turn around and sell it for it's real value. If you don't sell on E-bay, find a friend to do it for you. They will help you get the FULL value out of these lures. You should return this money to your wife's grandmother and let her do with it what she wants. It really was her husbands investment in something he held that increased in value over the years. Put a couple lures on at a time and have fun watching the auctions as they go. (Name of items: Antique Wooden Lures MIB) Using the Antique label will get you to the real collectors and bypass the local rip-off artists. The boxes and paperwork should make these very desirable for the true collectors.
