View Full Version : Nightcrawler Care
I want to store some nightcrawlers so I always have plenty on hand. What is the best way to keep them and how long should they last.

Pete,
I use Buss bedding. I currently have a 10 lb bag of it (mixed acording to instructions on the bag) in a coleman cooler sitting on my basement floor next to the freezer. I have two old 1/2 gallon milk jugs full of water (actually it is ice) one is in the cooler with the crawlers and the other is the freezer getting refrozen. I currently have 500 crawlers in the cooler. They should keep for a couple of months, but I plan on using them the end of the month in Canada.
Check out the archive or earlier posts as this was discussed not too long ago with a lot of good advice and ideas.

I use Frabill's Habitat II and worm bedding. I can keep crawlers all summer with one bedding change mid season.

There is a new company out that packages pre mixed bedding that doesn't clump and will keep worms for a long time. I will get the name and get back here with it. It is the best I have ever used. I have worms for over 5 weeks now lthat are still large and active. Keep them about 50 degrees or they will go dormant and get smaller.
I believe the brand is Fat & Sassy. It already has the food pre mixed. No need to add water. Just add crawlers. Great stuff!
