Does anyone have any experience with the Minnkota Universal Transducer? I am considering purchasing a Genesis or AutoPilot with the Universal Transducer, and would like to know people's opinions on the quality compared to an external transducer.

I have a new 65 autopilot this year with the built-in transducer. I'm not an expert on cone angles and all that stuff, but so far I really like it. The one thing to be careful about is that you need to be aware that it is only compatible with certain sonars, and you have to order the correct adapter plug to match the sonar. I miss read the catalog and thought it was compatible with my Zercom sonar, and it wasn't compatible with my particular one, so I ended up buying a new sonar to go with mine.

I've used it 10 times or so this year, and have been comparing readings with my other sonar on the back of the boat and they seem to be agreeing with one another. It's nice to not have so many clamp bands and wires to deal with, and it seems like the transducer is better protected from rocks, etc. than my old one that I clamped to the bottom of my old trolling motor.

So, thus far, I give mine a thumbs up............good luck.
