Looking for a reference for a top notch Opti mechanic in Northern Minnesota or Minneapolis Metro area. I have questions concerning the initial set up of the motor and what should have been done at the time I purchased it. Was told by a mechanic I met this weekend at the lake that the Optis need to have the timing roller cam centered or adjusted at set up time to assure proper timing. Apparently they aren't perfect straight out of the factory and need to be adjusted with a laptop and tank tested? Also, he took a peak under my hood and noted (after having me engage the shifter to WOT) that my throttle cable adjustment on the motor was not set up for full fuel at WOT. There is a stopper throttle block that the linkage is suppose to seat against when at WOT and it is about a 1/4" from even touching it when the shifter is at WOT position. He spoke of it needing to be preloaded? I don't know this guy from Adam, but he said he's been in the industry for a while and seemed fairly knowledgeable about this stuff. I could just start calling dealers but want to know I'm talking to someone who knows for sure. The problem is that the dealer I had rig my new Opti doesn't ever do Optis (I bought the motor from another dealer out of town)and he made it sound like there was nothing to it. Now I'm concerned that it was never done right to start with and this is why I'm not getting the performance I hear other getting with the same size boat/motor set up. Any help I can get would be greatly appreciated.
