Seems as though everyone has their own method for keeping most bugs away, but what about the black flies? Ideas? Methods that work???

On lake erie during a hot calm summer day with a front approaching the black flies can eat you alive. They basically go for the ankle since down below it's out of the wind. What we have found that works is rubbing lemon joy on the lower part of your legs. It's the only thing that lasts. Don't think this would work in canada where they bite every part of your body.
Good Luck!!

The new OFF BOTANICALS claim to repel black flies. I haven't tried it yet. I feel that DEET products are worthless for black flies and I hate putting that stuff on anyway. Someone said Oil of Begamont works but agai,...haven't tried it..

wow.....sounds like a good script to a Hitchcock movie!!
Tim are you sure you are not talking about Green heads? look a lot like houseflies and are nasty esp to your legs out in a boat.

Deep Woods Off if you can find it. Plain old Vicks Vapor Rub behind your ears and around ankles, wrists, and beltline keeps black flies from nailing you. Works well in Quebec and there is nothing worse than french black flies!

A Moose on a leash works pretty good too.
a friend told me about gojo fast wipes a year ago. work great. so many people use them around here they sell as fast as the stores get them.
