Is it a law, do you have to have an FCC license to operate a marine radio on your boat? I thought they did away with that, when the CB's became so popular back in the 70's.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

They did away with the license requirement (for recreational vessels) a few years back. The registration & fee was keeping people from using this key piece of safety equipment so they opened things up a bit. I think Canada still requires the license & (I think) requires you to have one if you wander into Canadian waters, even if you're not required to have a license in the US. If your walleye rig gets over 20 meters, then you'll need to step up & register.

Thanx, Kevin. Like a dummy, I've been running without a radio for the last three years, finally broke down and bought a new ICOM. It said in the manual that you need a license, so I thought I'd check with the experts, (you guys) to see if its true.
