Gang:
I realize I'm about to open a can of worms but I could sure use some advice on a good GPS unit. I was just informed that is what I'm getting for Fathers Day (goodie for me, my wife must of got tired of me whining that a GPS would help my tournament results) and if I wanted something specific I need to let her know a make and model. I have read until I'm blue in the face about this one does this and that, also have talked to several sales people at my local sporting good stores who don't seem to know any more then myself. I only have a few requirement that it needs to meet.
1) SIMPLE,SIMPLE,SIMPLE TO OPERATE!!!
2) Hand held ( I will be using it Elk hunting too)
3) rugged

Thanks, Randy

Don't get a Magellan. I am on my 3rd. They are supposed to be waterproof but they keep getting water in them and frying the circuitry. On the plus side, they keep replacing them for free, even though the warranty period is over.

Other than the water / frying / therefore losing waypoints problem, they are fine.

I've been using the Garmin 12 for over a year and have no complaints. Very easy to use, very affordable, locks on quickly, very accurate.
Good Luck

Best bang for the buck is a Garmin GPS III plus. It does about anything the most expensive ones do and I think it's easy to operate. Buy the video that goes with this unit as it will help you learn the system much easier.

My 2 cents Lowrance or Eagle, I have been using one in my boat and a hand held version for hunting for many years with no problems, and easy to operate.
