I am looking into buying a 1997 Ford Expedition - Eddie Bauer with all the goodies and the 5.4 Triton V-8. I have a 18'Tuffy fully rigged and was wondering if I will be happy with it's towing capabilities. I haven't heard much about these, but I notice a lot of MWC guys are running them this season. Do you have any complaints about these and what kind of mileage towing can I expect? Any feedback would be great- please no Ford / Chevy are best wars please! Give me da facts....thanks

I have a 99 Expedition EB, 5.4L, 3:73 ratio. It is a very tow vehicle for my ProV 1775 with a 150. A couple of recalls but all in all a good truck so far. I've heard that the trannies are a little weak. Gas mileage is poor, a fact of life because of the 17" wheels and the weight of the vehicle. I guess we can't have it both ways. Have 25000 miles on mine.

What were the recalls on? What kind of mileage are you having while towing. Any feedback would be appreciated. jigemup

I run a'97 Expedition, towed with it last three seasons. Not a thing has gone wrong.
I also have the 4.6L V-8 still towes good. I tow a 20ft Lund.

Good Luck

p.s. I have over 145,000 miles on my '97 Expedition

The recalls were for: 1) replace wiper switch because wipers would come on involuntarily, 2) trailer hitches had to have the anchor bolts replaced. This is a biggy, apparently there was a risk that the hitch would detach from the vehicle. As for gas mileage I get on average 12 to 13 MPG when towing my rig, which is affected a little with my choice of rear axle ratio. I might add that the fit and finish of the vehicle is superb, very comfortable for all riders with plenty of leg room for the rear passengers.

I own an "98" Exp. XLT F&R Air 5.4L
I have the "Tow Package" 17" Tires, Limited slip rearend, etc.
Tow an 1700 Lund Proangler 1000# + 1992 merc 90hp.
and an Lund 1900 Pro-v LE w/200 Optimax and 9.9 Kicker.
1700 gets 14-16 MPG
1900 Pro-V 10-14 MPG.
8 MPG w/40MPH Headwinds across N.Dakota NOT towing

The biggest battle is WIND!
That seems to slow down the vechicle big time.
If it's flat and No wind I can get 14 mpg and don't need to take out of OD.
My recall was for the Hitch as well.
I have never had a problem....40K miles
Well..ok... two coils went early on! But,
I love the vehicle!

Butch...

WalleyeWizard- how come you are selling it so soon? I'm not aware of what sticker is on this vehicle- so what is your asking price? Have you towed with it thus far - if so what have been your results? Thanks
