They've tolerated Steelhead and Salmon tearing out line without incident for the last two seasons.

Great reels for the money. I know a bunch of guys that have had them since they came out a few years ago, and have heard nothing negative about them.

I asked because I need a couple line counters that will see limited use, maybe 6 or 7 times a year for walleye pulling boards with snap weights.
which is recommended the 17 or the 27 size ?

rebs,

I use the 27 sized reels. I like to tinker with stuff,so I have changed out my drags to carbon fiber drag washers. I like the upgrade so far, the drag is very consistent, not jerky at all.

I am using the 17's now. I only use them about the same as you are looking at. I like the smaller size and they hold plenty of line for walleye fishing. You step up to those 27's and you are looking at a lot more line which is not needed. To each their own but I am more than happy with the smaller 17's

I use these reels for salmon, trout and walleye. For the salmon, I use the 47 and they have held up great. I don't know how old they are, but I bought those the 1st year they came out (3-4 years ago). I have since bought a few for walleye as well, the 27 series. Very nice drags, and as important, great clickers for pulling boards. I own about 6 different kinds of line counters and very believe these are the best bang for your buck.

I use all 27's with the exception of 47's for lead core. I am running Sealines for all but the lead core.
