Nothing was finer than to see Patrick WAAAAH-WAAAAH show off how he snagged that shot, and then see him look behind him to see it in the net. Hasek proved himself as a premier goalie, when he was with a nothing team like Buffalo. I'd like to see how good WAAAH would be if he wasn't surrounded by greatness like he is now and like he was in Montreal.

This is rediculous, you're making the rest of us wings fans and hockey fans look bad. To say that Roy is the goaltender that he is, because of the team he's on is rediculous. I say the avs are the team they are because of him. He is simply the best goaltender in the game right now, maybe the best ever, and as good as Hasek is, he's outmatched. Detroit would have walked all over colorado were it not for Roy. Give credit where it's due, don't trash talk the guy because you don't like the team.

As a diehard Habs fan of nearly 30 years...and a former season ticket holder in Buffalo I would like to weigh in on the Roy / Hasek discussion.

I watched Patrick Roy for years with the Habs play some incredible hockey and win a cup with a pretty decent but definitely not a dominating team. No doubt great goltending carried them that far. I dont blame him one single bit for wanting out of Montreal the way they were running that organization was a travisty.

For the past 6 years I have watched Dominick Hasek much closer being a season ticket holder. He is THE ONLY reason Buffalo made it to the Stanley Cup finals only to get screwed by the infamous "NO GOAL" goal by Brett Hull.

In my most humble opinion, I would have to say that Dom is the most incredible goaltender I have ever seen in my 30 years of watching hockey....even going back to the black & white games on Hockey Night in Canada in the 60's. The year they went to the finals he had 2 bad games against Washington in the first round and from there it was all Hasek.

You even see young goalies flopping like boated fish "Dominic Style" and dropping the stick to grab the puck with blocker glove....have you ever seen anyone do that before him? The guy is simply put...the best goaltender ever to play the game. MY OPPINION yours may differ.

Enuff said...great series and will be glued to my recliner tommorrow night.

Not to take anything away from Patrick...but I would like to see what Dom could do with Forsberg, Sakik, Foote, etc. working with him.

If I said anything to offend anybody that is an AVS fan, my sincerely appologize(sp?) I started a couple of these threads to have some fun with possibly the greatest rivalry the NHL has seen in my lifetime, some 40 something yrs of it anyway. Kevin and Eric have enlightened me on the Forsberg thing thru all of this and I say thanks for that, I do think that he could be or is the best player in the league. My thing with Roy (Rogers)lol started with the Habs, when they were playing the wings and getting killed and the coach for the Habs at the time left him in the game as the scape goat, when he came off the ice and had a lot of choice words for the coach and told him no more. Next year he was gone and the rest is history. I didn't say that he isn't one of the best if not the best in the league, I said I just don't like him then again I'm not that fond of Hasek either. But either one of them can take over a game and steal one for their team and that just might happen tomorrow night. Good luck to both teams and I hope no one get hurt and the best team wins. I think I stick with the wings in a 3-1 win, again the best team will be wearing RED AND WHITE!!!!!!!!

hehe, I hope it's detroit, but this game all hinges on 2 things: how aggressive the teams are, and which goaltender shows up to play. One will not make up for the other, but the combination will win. Detroit played excellent defense wednesday, colorado did not, detroit was more aggressive offensively, while still playing good D, and Hasek was on, Roy was off. That's why all these games have been one goal, the teams are so evenly matched, they can't put it all together in one night. Detroit did that wed. and I think they'll do it again at home, riding a high after game 6, but if colo scores the first goal, it could be a backbreaker, because we know how important one goal has been in this series.

In the end, we have the 2 best teams in the NHL playing against each other tomorrow night, and honestly, I'm going to record it, because I see it as being one of the best games played in recent years. Both of these teams are very experienced in the playoffs, and neither will back down until it's over. I really don't know who will win, but I think that if guys like shanahan, yzerman, federov, robitaille, chelios, and hull can get some offense going, it might actually turn into a rather high scoring affair. That's a big IF though. We'll see, but up to this point, the grinders have done most of the scoring for det. while colo has relied heavily on the big guns, Roy included.


My analysis, as a lifetime hockey guy. I just wanna see a good game, regardless of who wins. ;)

Anyone that enjoys hockey has to be excited about this game 7. Two of the best goalies in hockey history and a pile of guys on both sides that are the best of their field. Payrolls on both sides are about even.
I almost wish I wasn't such a Wings fan and could watch the game for the game itself, but I am a Wings fan and will be watching for a home victory.

Eyeschool.....As a Red Wings fan, I can totally respect what you're saying. While either the Avs or the Wings will be heavily favored in the finals over the Canes, they still have to play the games. There are always upsets in sports. But you must admit that on paper the Canes are overmatched against either team. That being said, if the Wings win tonight you won't hear anything from me but caution in approaching the finals. That nasty and boring neutral zone trap played by the Eastern Conference teams is scarey.

Prediction for tonight: Wings 3 Avs 2 in overtime.

Just a note to Bob Hartley.....I have it from a pretty reliable source that the Dominator WILL be using an illegal stick tonight. You might want to have it checked again when you have a man advantage and try for that 5 on 3 you so desparately wanted in game 6.

To all you Avs fans: IMHO you do have the best goaltender in the history of the game, but we have a pretty darn good one ourselves. And the depth of the Red Wings is starting to show as the greatest NHL coach of all time, Scotty Bowman, predicted it would. Peter Forsberg might just be the greatest player in the world right now, and Joe Sackic is a superstar, but our grinders and role players are second to none. Even Federov has sacrificed his offensive statistics for the good of the team. He has been awsome this whole playoff season.

It's going to be a great game 7 in what has been the best NHL playoff series I can remember.
