what size/type of hook is recommended for slip-bobber fishing for walleyes? typically use leeches as bait

I just started using Owner #6 Circle hooks. I'm very pleased with their performance. No need to set the hook...just lift the line and the lil buggers hook themselves. It's true too, what they say, about the hook always getting the fish in the side of the mouth. Pretty cool.

There is no perfect hook or presentation for all conditions but I like the gold tru-turn aberdeens the best. They hook better than conventional aberdeens and bend free when snagged, saving a lot of rigging time. I tend to put a colored bead above my hook too, confidence thing I guess. I think a small hook lets the bait have more action, but I second Juls and would recommend a #6. In finicky conditions, I have used #10 or #12 hooks too with some success.

Experiment with small jig heads and other hooks until you feel you've found what works for you.

Good luck!

I use small jigs where I can hide the part of the hook that the leech does not. The jig also works as your weight to stand your bobber up. I'm interested in how you guys rig up a bare hook. Is it on a leader with a slip weight or split shot? Thanks

I strictly use split shot, I weight the rig until the bobber is just shy of neutrally buoyant. In current I use spaced smaller shot, in other situations I like to use two shots about 6" apart - personal preference. I try to keep the shot at least 2' above the hook unless you are right in the weeds and want the bait more stationary.

I use Lazer Eagle Claw kahle #10 or #12. They are fine wire and don't change the natural action of the leech. Have used them for years, and haven't found anything better. I hear Juls talking about circle hooks, and will give them a try, I like the idea of catching them in the corner of the mouth.
CPR all the way!
