I am from Michigan and plan on visiting my sons in the Denver, CO area during June. I'll be towing my boat as we plan on doing some walleye fishing. Can you share with me names of the bodies of water in CO where I should fish for walleye? Or, could you direct me to a source where I can find a listing of such bodies of water? Thanks, Jack

All of the eastern irragation resevoirs have nice walleye and Saugeye populations. Unfortunately we are smack dab in the middle of the worse drought in 30 years. Most resevoirs will be to low to launch boats by the fourth of July. There are some decent lakes here in the Denver area. Chatfield is really coming on and has plenty of water. Pueblo to the south of us is good, but starting to get low also. Glendo three hours to the north and Big Mac three hours to the east are great fisheries. We don't have giant lakes or resevoirs like most walleye fisherman are use to. Our lakes are all between 1000 and 3500 acres. Thats why so many guys head north to Wyoming around here for their vacations.

Well in Denver your best shot is going to be CHatfield, or atleast thats how it seems, and its right smack dab on teh outskirts of teh south denver area. Chatfield is probably best since it has a nice population and little to no boating restrictions. But be aware this is a PWC haven and you'll need all the patients you can spare and then some. I'd post a few days before you actuall head to Denver or plan to fish, incase you'll have an internet connection here, and see what the bite is on and where. Its a different type of fishing down here sometimes, it will be nice to see how one of you northern types fares where the plains meet the mountains in our backyard, don't expect to be throwing back a lot of legal fish to go for the 5+ pounders either.

Thank you for the great information. I'm looking forward to being one of the northern types who will fish the waters where the plains meet the mountains. Jack.

Where in MI? I just moved from MI(St. Clair River/East China). Living in Loveland(45 mi. N of Den) now. Like the previous posts have said, there much water too choose from, you just have find out whats hot at that time. And just like MI, CO folks like to see how many boats they can cram in one square acre of water! TTYL, Matt.

Eventhough any poster here on the board will do what they can to help put you on fish I'd be prepared for anything. The weather and bite might be one way one day, but it is Colorado, and this last week proved nothing is a sure thing, going from snow to 90s in 5 days. While the summer shouldn't be so extreme in changes if you are fishing a front range resivior please be careful it can get really nasty really quick, not to say it doesn't up there, but severe storms tend to loom in the distance then pop up all of a sudden with sometimes a plethora of microbusts (many a day we have gotten surprised and opted to run as fast as possible for the nearest shore line). Hopefully you can take your knowledge from the northern reaches, the MI area, and teach us a thing or two, about fishing in our own back yard.
