I'm new to walleye fishing and have learned a lot by reading this board. I've read about how good leechs work as a bait, but my questions is, "How do you handle them?" Is there anything specific I should know before trying to use them? Thanks in advance!

Keep them cold and in a dormant state 35F if they warm up they will spawn and die. Sort them often and take out any dead ones because they will poison the rest of them.
Some people like to use what is called a leech tamer bag that is sold on WC here it is a heavy mesh bag that has a velcro closure and a float sewn in the top.
Very easy to clean and rinse them but not as easy to pick out the dead ones with this method.
Change water often with non chlorinated water or city water that has set out in an open container for 24 hours.
Hope this helps

Search the archives. In the last couple years there has been a ton of information about the care and feeding of leeches and other baits.

Sorry if my noggin' isn't working right, but you mention that WC sells Leech Tamer bags.
I looked through the products section and could not find them. Am I looking in the right place? I clicked on the links that looked like they may have something like that - tackle related, net related, etc. (skipped the ThermOil, and similar ones that looked totally unrelated), but I couldn't find Leech Tamer Bags.
Can someone point me in the right direction?
This young-graying, mind-losing soul would appreciate it!

Mesh bags refered to are available from The Tamer Group, JNB Originals. The website address is www.driftbag.com They make numerous products that help to organize angler assets. Check them out, I personally use the Wave Tamer driftbag and Tamer Towline, Leech Tamer, Bouncer Tamer, and the new Bait Tamer. I have been very happy with each of the products that I've used.
Good Fishing to All!!!:)

As everyone has said keep them cold.To put them on a hook wiggle i'm around till it sucks on you're thumbnail then stick the hook through the sucker,It will swim away from the hook into a eye's mouth.Slip bobber works great over weeds or in the middle of a weed patch.bottom bouncers, long line jig, fuzzy grub ,A leech will work with any hook for most of the open water season..
