While continuing my quest for a new antenna mount, I have come across Die Cast Zinc (Zamac), Stainless Steel, and Die Cast Chrome, priced least to most. I'm not really too concerned about a few $$, but am concerned about buying one that will last. The Stainless ones will reguire a little modification on my part, whereas the Die Cast Chrome will bolt right on.

My question is, has anyone had any bad experiences with Die Cast Chrome?? I always figured SS would be the way to go, but also enjoy the easy route when it presents itself!!

If i`m not mistaken the die cast chrome is still a form of zinc, for the little extra money I went with the ss. No problem so far (3 years old ). The die cast chrome will still oxidize and can cause a bad connection. The chrome is only for looks, and will eventually crack and peel.

Yeah, that's what I figured. Here's what has me confused - the die cast zinc is 17.50, the SS is 37.50, and the die cast brass is 42.50....go figure

Usually there isn't a problem with any of em unless you run an antenna higher than 8'. We have been through 3 cast mounts. We run a 4" extension on an 8' antenna. Buy a good SS Mount you won't regret it...No problems since..also if possible and you do use an extension -support it in two plces. With our boat design that is not possible for us and creates a lot of strain for the mount.

I have a Ram mount. Like it a lot. It lock in place nice and is easy to raise and lower.
