I'm looking to get a new tackle box/bag and would like to know what everyone likes to use?

I'm old-fashioned for a reason. I like the Plano 737/757 "chest-of drawer" boxes because they fit on top of my boat's dashes. If they didn't, I'd be into soft bags with plastic boxes.

If you go with a bag, get the one that you can load and retrieve your hard boxes from the top. I have one that has a flap in front and it seems that the tray I always want is on the bottom.

Cabela's Advanced Anglers extra-large bag. Very well made, super tough zippers, top load, nice shoulder strap... I have a couple of these and they have held up great. They also have a molded bottom that holds the shape of the bag wheh you remove a couple of boxes. I like the bag systems because I can choose the individual boxes I wil need and I can leave the rest at home.

Best Regards,

FJH

I used a top loader with plastic boxes and still do when not going in my boat. I got a tip from someone here a long time ago regarding using a simple plastic storage box with a lid. I bought one at Walmart for $7 and just load the plastic boxes in that I need for that day. There are an array of sizes to fit whatever plastic box size you use. I don't use the lid and I drilled a few drain holes in bottom for rain.

I like the soft bags too and the top load works
real good. With Plano stowaways I've actually
become organized :-) And like FJH said, you don't
have to take your entire arsenal along with you,
you can take what you need for the season, the
days conditions, and the species of the day.
Oops, sorry I meant for Walleye... Lol, still haven't broken myself of that bad bass habit...

After a lifetime of the old "tool box" type, I've converted to the new plastic boxes and bag type. Sure left a lot of old junk that looked good in the store but was never going to catch anything but a tree in the old box. I have one problem that maybe someone has an answer for. I have some items like interchangable reel spools that are too big for the 1 1/2 inch thick boxes Plano makes and need a source of 2 to 2 1/2 inch boxes in the 7" x 11" size. Anyone got an idea?

I like Lakewood and B&B Baitbox. They are both soft-sided but have a frame in them so they don't fall into a heap when you take a box out of them.
I use the lakewood A050 for all my rigs and jigs and that sort of thing. Oh yeah, a Northland box fits right in there too.
I use B&B Bait boxes for my crankbaits. They have a bunch of different sizes. I think mine will hold like a hundred baits each. The baits hang vertically. It's a huge time saver not trying to take apart 5 cranks that decided to make love in my tackle box since the last time I used them.
Actually, I need at least 1 more box. I have waaay too many crankbaits.

I've tried many over the years, but my favorite turns out to be a black over grey Plano tool box. It holds four plastic stowaway boxes, camera, big ziplock bag of spinner rigs, scale, sunglasses, and if it rains other stuff you want to keep dry. You can buy them in most hardware stores, they are inexpensive and with the selection of stoaway boxes on the market you can configure them the way you fish and not how some one thinks you fish. Just remember that the ones I like are the black top (lid) with dark grey bottom. NOT the cheaper red or colored ones. They are tough and inexpensive. Jst my five cents worth.

I have the Pfleuger model from Bass Pro Shops. It is water proof, holds six plastic boxes, has numberous pockets for miscellaneous items and also has weaved bungie straps across the top to hold down rain gear, lake maps, etc. It is durable and like I said, waterproof. The Pfleuger has heavy duty zippers and D-rings to attach other stuff to. Its great for the money.

Bass Pro Extreme President. More features than any bag I've ever seen. Just wish they made it as well as the Cabela's bags. Had to replace one within the first year, and now I baby it's replacement. But I still like it better because of all the features. It's a front loader, but that's my preference. Good fishing, John.

Tackle Logic started making the clear plastic boxes that are sized the same as Plano's. They have large open areas big enough for spools of line. Basically, the lower half of the box is open. But even these large areas can be partitioned. I just bought a couple yesterday at a local shop. Keep your eye open.

This is sort of like asking what kind of woman you should marry. Each answer you'll get will be different. For what it's worth, I use two. A top loading soft bag for most of the baits and plastic grubs, etc that fit in plastic boxes. But I also carry a Plano 1234 because I can get a lot of lures, bobbers, etc in the removable botton 3700 boxes and the top is there for flashlights, extra spools, pliers, including some 3500 and small orange two-sided boxes for hooks, split shot etc. As a little side tip, I have 5 coupon wallets (the kind you get for store coupons) in which I keep all my pre-made rigs. After tying I wrap them in a circle, hold it with aluminum foil and put them in the coupon wallet. Works great!.
Sorry this was so long,

The Plano "Guide" is a big, roomy soft tackle bag with tough zippers and lots of pockets for "stuff". One of the things I really like about this particular bag is that it fits the bigger 3700 storage boxes. By the way, here's a tip if you're like me and find it a nuisance when those adjustable dividers keep slipping up. You can glue them in permanently with plumber's "Goop". It's a waterproof, permanent adhesive that stands up to abuse and keeps your hooks from sliding underneath and catching like they do when you merely slip the dividers in loosely.

I just got a Plano at a fishing show and it is great. It has storage compartments that can be removed and exchanged as well as a good spot for spinnerbaits. I have one of the compartments devoted to bass mostly and that is what I take to the nearby river I fish so that I don't have to take all of the lures.

The top loading Bass Pro bag works great for all the plano boxes and the soft sided zippered cases (the ones with the little lunch bags inside) and other STUFF. But take it one step further by placing this Bag and camera, binoc's, rain gear (Guidewear), extra spools of line, reels, gloves, dry clothes, socks, boots, maps and whatever else you can think of into a plastic Tupperware Tub or Rubbermaid tub with a lid (the ones you get at Walley World). Put a bungee strap over the lid (so it doesn't blow away) and you have all of your gear and STUFF in one container and it's waterproof to boot. One grab and go. Neat system.

Bass Pro Shops President series gets my vote. Four Plano strage boxes, additional storage compartments and envelopes. Front loading is the part I like. Holds more stuff than you will ever need. Of course, you can never have too much stuff.
