I'll leave the medical suggestions to someone more knowledgeable, but be sure you include a side cutter or something similar for cutting off hook barbs in order to remove them. Been there, done that!

My best advice is to do some research...Look through the National Outdoor Leadership School's Wilderness Guide...There is an Appendix with an excellent list of First Aid Supplies... I carry a small Adventure Medical Kit (brand name) and keep it well stocked...my selections are based on the NOLS list in "NOLS Wilderness First Aid"...which is a pretty good text to keep around if you are going to be in a very remote area... Anyone serious about the issue should take a good wilderness first aid course... Check with your local YMCA and area Junior Colleges or your local Fire Department for information... We used to have a large group and were very fortuynate to have two paramedics and a Nurse/Anethesist who went along...

I have a Johnson & Johnson 4 man kit. Everything inside is sealed for dryness and cleanliness. I paid about $25 for it 4 or 5 years ago. It has everything you would need to patch someone up. I think I bought it at wallgreens. Campmoor and Cabellas also have them.
