View Full Version : Lake Gogebic
Is this a good walleye/pike lake? Is it a viable substitute for a canadian trip? Pls advise, thanks! Fishing pressure?
Lake Gogebic is an excellent walleye lake although they tend to be smaller fish. The size requirement is only 13 inches on Lake Gogebic, so you can expect to get many good eaters. The state park on Lake Gogebic is about the nicest state park in Michigan!

Hi Jay, I will second the above. This lake is particularly good to fish walleye wherever rocky shoreline has the wind blowing into it. That is always good advice, but it really holds true here and you want to go out of your way to search for those situations. That lake can really get whipped up by the wind. Fishing Hotspots has a good map. That time period can be especially great for jumbo perch--12 to 14 inchers fairly common and eaters no problem. I have done real well on perch fishing the outer weed edge on the southeast shore with livebait. Look for the big lodge with the red roof (you can't miss it) and start working that weedline that starts just south of there, and all the way south till it ends. Last two hours of daylight are best, and the perch seem to move in from deeper water in waves. You may not be getting anything and then bang, you can't keep a rod in the water. It also has some beautiful smallmouth and numerous very small northerns. Good luck, that should be a great time to go, not Canada, but a great trip just the same.

Most said is true but must be from guys who haven't fished there in years. The legal size for walleye is now 15 ".
You're right Big T, it has been a few years since I have fished it, and I was not aware that they had changed the minimum size.
