"LOTW Area Storm !!!"

Lake of the Woods south shore suffered tremendous rain storm Sunday and Monday. 12 inchs of rain hit the area and flooding from Roseau to Baudette was common. Roads are closed and bridges are washed out. The dike in Roseau breached this morning and flooded the town. Sand bagging may not help. Warroad and Baudette have standing water in the main street and Hwy 11 is closed or water covered. The Rainy river rose 4 ft in a very short period and more water is coming from Int Falls. Many resorts are cut off from the highway by two or more feet of water. So much debris is in the river it is impossible to navigate. Mud and other soil has clouded the south shore making it hard to fish. Tuesday I talked to a couple of charters that had clients and had to go out, they went all over and couldn't catch many fish. The road from Hwy 172 to Zipple Bay had torrants of water flowing thru culverts so fast that whirl pools and rapids were everywhere. I saw boats tied to trees to keep them from floatng away. The dock at the public landing at Wheelers was under water where it is anchored to the land. Check with your resort and see if they are in operation before you go up. I spent the last two days up there and never wet a line. They are in serious trouble and need help in the clean up when the rain and water resides. Support the people up there when you can. We need the lake to settle down for awhile before fishing can get back to normal. It will be back, but for now it may take awhile. Water LOGGED AND STILL WET.....Kaz

The NW Angle is cut off for vehicle travel. The bridge in Sprague is out. I just saw on the news 100 people are stranded at a resort up there. They are bringing people across the lake to Rocky Point and Warroad by boat.

The main lake is full of debris as well. It will be dangerous driving boats.

The news said Roseau lost 90% of their businesses and homes due to the flood. Looked as bad as GF in 97.....devastating.

Balsl6: I think the best way to find out how to help is to keep listening to the news reports for when help is needed. Many from the Red River area have been assisting as did the people from this area did in '97. Curt, maybe you can let some or the WC people know when your station broadcasts a request for volunteers. The road through Roseau is CLOSED, no thru traffic. The bridge thru Warroad heading to Baudette is down to one lane as the pilings are giving out. The lake is like a mine field, Debris all over. Also services like food ,gas, etc.. are limited, in the Roseau area.
