Ok guy's,fess up,and tell the truth.My biggest is 7 1/2lbs,and caught by accident.A hot sunny day,fishin with a crawler,around noon. Let's see what the results are,and see if there's a pattern.Then we can all trade our price-y boat's in for waders.Right!!!
11lbs 1oz lake erie end of march 1996 I think. Jig and plastic with a shinner minnow. Tim

28" long, 19" girth, 8 lbs, drifting a small crawler harness in 8' of water with 2 to 3 foot waves off Point moulee on Erie in mid July, was actually picking up some nice perch when this thing hit, she's on the wall now.

Last Sunday, just out of the Cove Bay area on Mille Lacs in 21' of water with a crawler harness - 26 inch fish. I'm 29 and have fished a lot of years and never Landed anything bigger have lost plenty of biggies, so this was pretty exciting. Within in an hour of that both of the guys fishing with me each landed their own 26 incher, so everyone had a good day.

29" 9 lbs, on an Ohio inland lake! Lake Erie Walleyes should not count!! They are tooooooooooo Big!!!! And they taste terrible!!
But, if you cannot catch a big one elsewhere, go there! Have fun, no matter where you fish!! Please pass it on to a youngster, that is what is important!!

Well, those big ones , we even tried bleeding them by cutting their gills, then putting them in the cooler with ice. Then fileting them, cutting them into small squares, after cutting out all the red meat, then freezing them in water. Then when thawed in cold water, soaking them in milk in the fridge, then frying them. IT NEVER FAILED , one piece would taste terrible!!! Oh , if you donot know, the DNR tells you not to eat too many, especially if you are a female of child bearing age!! Give me Mosquito lake WALLEYES any day!!!!! Have fun!!!
My 11 pounder was c.p.r. Thats way to big to eat! But I sure do like the smaller ones from erie (15-22) are perfect. Tim

Ok, I'll bite! I have been pretty fortunate over the last couple of years to pick up my share of trophy walleyes. Although I can't claim a 15+, my biggest to date is a 13lb 2oz caught in the Red River by Selkirk Manitoba on a day that had 25 MPH winds, sleet and a high temp of 37 degrees in mid October. I used a 1/2 oz cheurtreuse jig tipped with a minnow.
Not my biggest fish but by far my the one I am most proud of. I caught a 30 1/2" walleye on a small west central Minnesota lake (my honey hole) after dark on the 4th of July pulling cranks watching fireworks. It was on a bomber Long A shad color and I was trolling about 2.5MPH in 100' + of water sticking it just above the thermocline. Caught many hawgs fishing this way and can't wait for the next full moon cycle to start hitting those night eyes again this year! Problem is it will be likely into August moon phase before they are good this year since no thermocline will likely set up with the temps we have been having.

those are some big walleyes.ive caught a ton of 25 to 26 inch walleyes pulling 7 shad raps on leadcore over the years on my home lake but nothing close to the 12lb lake record.maybe this year will be differant.
Hey FishingDog,
How do you determine where the thermocline is? Can you see it on your electronics or are you dropping a thermometer? I also like to troll deep cranks in summer but am never sure where I should be as to depth.

Biggest was 15 lb 2 oz caught Oct. '98. Was caught on Lake Ontario near St. Catharines Ont. Was walking a pier with a Rebel Fastrac. The same pier produced the largest live released walleyes in Ontario for 6 straight years in the 90's.
My personal best was a 25" greenback, nice and fat, weight unkown. Caught it half hour after sunset. Location: east side of the Red River on the inside of a bend, across from Netley Creek. Lure: Pickeral Rig and minnow!
Wife's personal best: 28" green back, weight unknown, but I believe over 9 pounds according to taxidermist. Location: west side of Red River, south of Netley Creek, but north of the small creek that you cross over to get to "End of Main". Lure: Pickeral Rig and minnow!
Daughter's best(wife help land it) (5 years old at the time): 31" river walleye, about 9 pounds(not a greenback). Location: east side of Sugar Island by the old barge on the Red River. Lure: Pickeral Rig and minnow!

All the biggest walleyes I caught, I caught while I was muskie fishing. 30 inch walleyes t-bone a jerk just like a muskie, don't fight nearly as hard though.
I got one of my bigger walleyes fishing cut bait for cats on the Miss. By far the prettiest, streamlined and perfectly proportioned. Love them river fish.

This year I caught my biggest eye on the 1st fish of the year. A 12.2 # monster! I have now caught 2 other fish over 10 #'s but it is funny that they all end in .2, and each 1 # apart. An 11.2 #er and a 10.2 # er. These fish were caught on Lake Ontario at night trolling big rapalas. Also on a side note my friend Vinny Wilson caught back to back 11 #er's one night. Enjoy the rest of the year and be safe. JJ

10-8, 30.5 inches caught July, 2001, on LOW bottom bouncing with a hammered nickel blade the size of a large thumbnail on a 5 foot long 3-hook crawler harness in 27 feet of water. I just started to make a turn to follow the contour (thereby causing the rig to change speeds) when she hit. Overcast day, 30 mph winds blowing right into that inside turn, very rough water.
My wife's biggest is 27.5 inches but we did not weigh it. Was also a LOW fish.
I love that lake!

It can be found with your electronics. I don't beleive the Lowrance is actually measuring the thermocline but baitfish. It tends to set up around 25-35' deep when the weather has been warm. I am able to see a lot of baitfish and debris that typically is a line that runs about a 5' depth in that 25' area of water. I let out about 150' of line on my line counter and get the deepest running lures with a lot of action. Hope this helps!

My biggest was a 12.5 to 13 lb. caught and released out of the Detroit River in 1995. Early spring, only walleye caught by my partner and I that day. Used a jig and minnow for bait. First time he and I fished together he performed an awsome net job. He couldn't reach it, got the rim under the gill plate, pulled it towards him and scooped it up. Not a mark on the fish and jig in the corner of the mouth, felt great letting her go.
Caught a longer one, 32 inches, musky fishing in Canada last year. hit a big bucktail off of a rock pile. My partner and I caught 3 walleyes over 29 inches on musky baits that week. Kinda makes me wonder what would have happened if we were fishing walleyes, probably would have been bothered by muskies!
Biggest was in the 12-13 lb range. I've caught more then a few around this size over the years on Saginaw Bay. Last year however I landed a nice 12 lber on a Crawler Harness rig.

I catch several fish over 30" a year since I learned how to fish the Columbia after spending 8 years on the Mississippi, but my biggest is a 36" fish that came on the first pass after dropping the family off on an island. It was very hot July day and she came on a bomber on a three way. She is on my wall with the pair of eyes taken from the ol' miss in consective passes.
Last year I handed a 16 lb 10 oz fish off to my buddy. All the big girls are fun and all but two have been released.

30" Mille Lacs walleye trolling a Yozuri suspending crystal minnow the full moon last November. I had it measured at 28.5 and I was looking so closely at the tail on the board I didn't realize I had the back of the fish all scrunched up. My nephew asked "aren't you going to straighten it" and it was a beautiful sight to see that tail slide up to the 30" mark when I straightened the back. Well guy's,here's the so-far result's of the un-scientific poll. Look's like crankbait's are #1 for big fish.About 18 posts, had their big one, caught with them. Next was jig's; crawler harness'; and a few,by Musky bait,or crappie riggin'.Trolling on the big Erie has a hold on the big fish.Anyone surprised?Didn't think so.Minnesota has a good hold on some dandy's too.Tobin Lake also listed, has some Walleye to chase.I'm surprised that the Detroit River, didn't show more.Maybe a post on Detroit River only big fish, would blow out the 48,or so reply's posted.None the less,it look's like big fish, swim in select water's and not every lake prouduces them.No surprise there either.Take the time,to troll, and on certain water's,and you can put the odd's in your favor.Mine too.Red River, gained some big respect also and Lake Ontario too,put up some monster's.This is what Walleye Central had in mind,as we can learn from each other, and pass info to help us all maintain better result's on the water.Thank's to all who replied to this.Thank's Walleye Central too.God Bless America.Canada too!!

I caught a 32 incher in late October in the Rainy River at Baudette, MN. On a jig and minnow. The wind was blowing at about 35 MPH and there were 50 boats in this area because LOW had kicked up big time. We couldn't hold our spot with an anchor and almost bumped in to another boat so we moved further out in the middle of the river. The guys in that boat had a terrible vocabulary. 2 minutes after we settled in Lundman caught a 25 incher. I hooked a it's twin 10 minutes later. 10 minutes after the big one hit and Lundman followed with another 20 incher. By this time the wind was blowing 40 MPH and the temp was about 30 degrees, so we decided to get going. As we left we thanked our guides for directing us to spot further out in the river.

Mine came out of French Creek in western PA. during labor day weekend in 1991. In the evening I was catching 4 inch creek chubs on my trout rod outfit and then transfering the chubs to my spinning outfit. I would lip hook them on a size 6 hook under a bobber and floating it through some fast water and into an eddy when the bobber disappeared. About 5 minutes later a 32.5 incher was landed that weighed 11 pounds 7 ounces. That one (the only one) is hanging on the wall with a certification from the PA Fish and Boat Commission Angler Award.
It may take you a long time to catch that big walleye on Lake Erie. I am 30 years old, grew up across the canal from Brest Bay Marina in Monroe. It took me until two Saturdays ago, June 8th to catch my first 10# fish. I will never know how it tastes because it is going on the wall. I figure that it took me over 1500 walleye and 25 years to get this one. I have never caught a walleye on a lake other than Erie. Of all colors, I got it on a beat up pink hot-N-tot in about 19FOW about 1.5 miles off Stoney Point.

Actually mine was caught a couple weeks ago. I'm mainly a bass fisherman but I do fish walleyes alittle. I was prefishing for a bass tournament in the area. I was throwing a crankbait on a 9ft weed line when BOOM! A good solid hit. My first thought was that it's a northern. Well needless to say I brought it up and she was a monster! I really can't judge the size of walleyes that well but I did take a measurement and she went 30 1/4 inches. I figured her at around 8lbs, she was a really chunky fish. My livewell wasn't working at the time so I let her go( I probabley would have anyway) Cleaning fish is such a pain hehehehe. Was my guess right about her size?

It was a calm, warm July morning on an outpost lake in Quebec. I'd spent the previous day nailing one cigar-sized walleye after another on worm harnesses and decided to switch tactics and fish for big pike. The plan was to toss topwaters into the stick-ups in shallow water. I'd had some success fooling a few 5-10lb northerns into the net and I was feeling good as I approached a flat island which was surrounded by weed beds which appeared ideal. Upon my first cast into a likely spot I'd planned on letting the ripples settle before retrieving my lure. No sooner had the floater landed, however, when my lure disappeared from the surface and I realized it had been engulfed by a big fish. I couldn't tell what it was for sure until I got it near the boat and saw that it was a big walleye. Once landed, she weighed out at 8 lbs. before I eased her back into the dark water. It took me a minute or two to reflect on what had just happened but a lesson was learned. A Canadian guide had once told me that big walleye act like pike. Because of their size they have difficulty competing for prey in large schools so they become loners that attack bait from cover much like a northern might do. Of course, this is not the only way to capture trophy sized walleye but it sure is one of the ways!

South of 30 inches from the Mississippi near Winona, MN on a secondary wingdam.
Caught her with "walleye candy" (Willow cat!).
Funny thing...the next day, we caught 4 fish over 26 inches all within 1/2 hour off the same dam on 'cats.
This year, willowcats are producing fish, but leeches are a close second! Nothing like a willowcat bite though, either it's an 'eye, a big smallie, or one monster catfish!!! Caught one flathead that was well over 25 pounds (my partner guessed 40 and I a conservative 30), took the hook out at boatside and she swam away.
As far as smallies....I have never had one under 2.5 pounds hit my willowcats...there are those that claim that all they catch are smaller ones, butI must be able to shake those off(lol).

I've been keeping track;those crankbaits have a hold, and can't be de-throned!No way! Hey Goosepit, the 30" Walleye you measured,I'd say was closer to 10#.A beaut!I'm very glad all of the people that have taken nice Walleye, are keeping "one for the wall".Hey,fish are a renewable resource, that need our care, our knowledge, and simply taking a few,to make room for other's to grow to a trophy size.Today,I belive there are more big fish, more deer, and turkey, smallmouth and largemouth, due to our catch and release policy's and conservation effort's.Look at Erie;there's a success story,if there ever was one.Musky are another story. They've rebounded so much, that there are more big, more than ever!In the day's of the Indian, they had to hope the fish re generated to a good population;today we make it happen.America,ahh....America.Let Freedom ring.

11# 33" fish from northern WI lake, back on opening day of '87. The only walleye caught that weekend. 3:30 in the afternoon on a sunny day with an 1/8 oz jig and minnow, fishing a rock/sand/weed reef where we'd caught northerns in the past. I was in highschool, so I had my headphone's on listening to Metallica and eating Doritos. My jig/minnow (large lively minnow) was just off the bottom over the side of the boat while I was stuffing my face and jamming. Next thing I know, the line was moving with the rod bending....rest is history. She's on my wall now, but in retrospect, I think I would have CPR'd now....things were different 15 years ago.

12 lbs. 6 oz. I was 13. Caught it on January 22, 1973 on Lake Minnetonka. Fishing by myself out of a 4 x 4 foot spear house, which was all I had back then. Using a golden shiner in 22 feet of water on one of the bays in the lower lake. It's on my wall and still looks big. I caught several more in the 8 to 11 range through the ice in the same spot while I was still in school but I haven't approached 5 lbs. for a 'Tonka walleye in the past two decades.

I gotta step up to the plate and report on Montana!
My big walleye came ice fishing on Fort Peck with an old standard T type tip up. I was able to coax a 32.25 inch 11 # 13 Ounce walleye out a 9 inch hole only an hour after my buddy caught a 33 inch 12 pound 13 ounce eye from a hole about a mile away. Needless to say we were ecstactic and the weights came about 6 hours later after laying on the ice and then a blanket for 2 hours til we could get them officially weighed. They both were mounted.
My 8 year old daughter was spoiled for life last winter when she caught a 31 inch 11# 3oz. eye on Nelson Reservoir in North Central Montana. She now thinks all walleye should be that big!
My wife's big fish was 28 inch 9 pound pig caught at Last Mountain Lake north of Regina, SK
My 7 year old son, who we call Mr. Northern, as he always seems to catch them instead is still hanging in with about a 3 pounder, but he will notch the big one soon!

Two weeks ago at Trinidad Res. in Colorado. 31.5 in 11.36 pound walleye. I've been waiting for a fish like this my whole life and thought it would come from an Ill. Cooling lake or from Minn. or Wisc. Nope ...good old Colorado on a bottom bouncer and a home made spinner/ crawler.

Fishing with former walleye pro Mike Theyerl on Erie's West Basin during the PWT's first trip to Port Clinton/South Bass Island. Found a 55' hole and if he wasn't with me, I never would have sensed the 31.5"/11.25 pounder. I haven't topped it yet...
2.5 llbs on res. guion in quebes canada may 2002!

8lbs even, caught it while night fishing on a charter on Mille Lacs about 5 years ago. Still waiting for that elusive 10. Was slip bobber fishing with a red gamakatsu hook and a leech. Biggest fish caught out of my boat was a 9 1/2 lb, 30 inch walleye caught last summer on LOTW by a friend from California. That one was caught trolling cranks in the main basin of the lake.
Take care and good fishing.

In memory of my mother, who taught me how to fish: I baited a June Bug spinner with a 5-inch perch I'd just caught, cast it out and handed mom the rod, and started rowing. Result: 8pd/4ounce walleye. Place: Big Chetek Lake, Wis. Date: July 14, 1947. The mounted fish hangs in my son's game room in Kalama, Washington, alongside the Washington state record buck coho salmon (29-1/2 pds) that he caught in 2001 on ultra-lite spin tackle. Like grandmother, like grandson!
